I still remember in middle school when my friends and I would gather around an old tube TV in one of those basements that had old wooden wall paneling and a treadmill in the corner of the room that was never used. The room would smell of pepperoni pizza and cheesy bread sticks. It was Royal Rumble night on Pay Per View! We would yell our favorite character’s lines, “And that’s the bottom line!” “If ya smell…what The Rock…is cooking!” The following day, we would reenact some of the moves we saw on TV on the backyard trampoline. We knew wrestling was real because we would go home with black eyes, swollen ankles and bruised wrists. Those were the days.

By the morning light, outside my window, the police were already blocking off streets for the controversial Independence Day march in Warsaw, Poland. Despite a court ban, thousands still gathered for the rally led by the far-right.
